Tehillim

About

It is important to finalize your Tehillim recitation by specifying the purpose of your prayers. You may express your prayers in your own language. Many Hebrew versions of Tehillim include specific prayers for concluding the recitation, particularly for praying for the sick. Reciting Tehillim enhances the effectiveness of subsequent prayers, both through the merit of reciting Torah verses and the emotional impact of these words, inspiring more fervent prayer.

Here are some recommended Tehillim selections:

For the Sick: Chapters 20, 6, 9, 13, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 28, 30-33, 37-39, 41, 49, 55, 56, 69, 86, 88-91, 102-104, 107, 116, 118, 142, 143, 148. A shorter version includes Chapters 20, 30, 121, 130, 142. Following this, spell out the Hebrew name of the sick individual using chapter 119's verses. Chapter 119, an acrostic of the Hebrew alphabet, is used to recite verses corresponding to each letter in the person's name. Often, the words "ben/bat" (son/daughter of) and the mother's name are included, along with the phrase “kara satan” (tear Satan), signifying a plea to annul any negative decrees.

At a Person's Grave: Chapters 33, 16, 17, 72, 91, 104, 130. Then, spell out the deceased's Hebrew name from chapter 119's verses, ending with the word “neshama” (soul).

Tikkun Klali of Rebbe Nachman: Chapters 16, 32, 41, 42, 59, 77, 90, 105, 137, 150. These chapters were recommended by Rabbi Nachman of Breslov to repair spiritual damage, particularly from the sin of wasting seed. Breslov Hassidim often accompany these chapters with additional prayers.

For Israel, Protection, and Jewish People in Danger: Chapters 13, 20, 79, 80, 83, 91, 121, 130, 142.

For Livelihood (Parnassah): Chapters 23, 104, 128, 145. It's advisable to augment these with selections from the all-purpose list.

All-Purpose List (Marriage, Children, Happiness, Fulfillment, Peace of Mind, etc.): Chapters 3, 6, 13, 16, 20, 22, 23, 27, 32, 41, 42, 51, 56, 59, 70, 77, 86, 88, 90, 102, 121, 128, 130, 137, 142, 143, 150, with certain chapters highlighted for their potent effect.
